VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA (October 4, 2012): With the temperatures dropping across the country, a new ski season is just around the corner.
For anyone interested in learning to ride the rails in the terrain park or negotiating the bumps like Alex Bilodeau, that means it’s time to check out your local freestyle ski club – there are more than 50 freestyle ski clubs in Canada and you can find one near you by using our Club Finder.
Freestyle skiing in Canada is comprised of four disciplines: Moguls, Aerials, Halfpipe and Slopestyle. All of these disciplines require fundamental skiing skills and some acrobatic awareness. Registered Canadian freestyle ski clubs have qualified coaches that are trained by the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association in conjunction with the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) to teach all these skills in fun and safe progressions.
Clubs offer a range of programs for athletes of all levels through the Can Freestyle Long-Term Athlete Development model, including:
Jumps and Bumps – ages 6 and up – for kids just starting out in freestyle skiing. Coaches track skills with stickers and passports.
Freestylerz – ages 8-13 – skiers acquire more advanced skiing skills, learn a variety of tricks and spins, and enter fun competitions.
Can Free TEAM – for athletes ready to enjoy more off-season training and be part of a team that travels to competitions.
